Recognizing the Golden State’s leadership in the face of federal attacks on our environmental protections, this year we are celebrating California Leadin’ and honoring the clean water warriors leading the charge to safeguard LA & CA:

Kevin de León
CA Senate President Pro Tempore

Hilda L. Solis
LA County Supervisor

Steve Fleischli
NRDC Water Program Director & Senior Attorney

Los Angeles Waterkeeper works locally with our partners–like Supervisor Solis, Steve Fleischli, and other water leaders–to protect and restore the region’s coastal and inland waterways, while California Coastkeeper Alliance advances statewide water policy solutions in collaboration with forward-thinking legislators like Senator de León.

What is Making Waves?

Making Waves is Los Angeles Waterkeeper’s annual benefit to support the organization’s groundbreaking work to safeguard the region’s waterways. Every year, hundreds of LA’s business, philanthropic and community leaders come together to raise awareness and funds needed to help us further our mission to protect our coastal waters and inland waterways through enforcement, fieldwork and community action.

The 2016 benefit was a record-breaking success, generating over $500,000 in support of LA Waterkeeper’s advocacy efforts and in honor of our Water Warriors: Jay Borzi, Lawyers for Clean Water, and SA Recycling. Nearly 400 guests came together for the September soiree, which was themed around Transformation! – in recognition of the fundamental changes underway in the LA region as to resource how and where we get our water, rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, and revitalize the region’s most impact waterways. Special thanks to our emcee, Terry Tamminen! Learn more by viewing our event video.

Last year, we honored LA’s Drought Warriors – those who are leading Angelenos in water conservation during the worst drought in California history. Honorees included Google, NBC4 Southern California, Reformation, City of Santa Monica and Omelet. Over 350 guests attended the summer gala and raised a grand total of $300,000 to support our work. Check out the honoree video!
