Making Waves: From the City to the Sea
Last Thursday, June 19th, Los Angeles Waterkeeper hosted our annual gala event at the Fairmont Miramar luxury hotel and bungalows in Santa Monica. The event was appropriately called Making Waves: From the City to the Sea since we honored the City of Los Angeles, LA Sanitaiton’s Enrique Zaldivar and Adel Hagekhalil and the employees from LA Sanitation who have implemented successful improvements on the ground throughout the city. During this event we also introduced our brand new LA Waterkeeper Ambassadors: Jennifer Boysen (artist), Sam George (writer, editor, director and surfer) and Anne Litt (DJ for KCRW and Music Supervisor).
The event was another amazing success! Over 350 people came out to enjoy music, drinks, appetizers, a silent auction, our custom made photo booth and the VIP After Party at the Bungalow. When all was said and done, we raised a grand total of nearly $250,000!
This year marked my third Making Waves event and all three years have been phenomenal. From our big name change event in 2012 to last year’s 20th anniversary celebration, and now this year’s great event, I am always amazed at the broad network of people that support LA Waterkeeper.LA is very lucky to have the best Keepers around looking after our waterways and the best community of contributors and volunteers to help!
