Dr. Michael Quill, who holds a PhD in Community, Liberation and Ecopsychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, has directed LAW’s Marine Programs since 2017. He is particularly dedicated to building bridges of dialogue between our diverse community members, including at-risk youth and the fishing community, through sharing reconnective activities in, on, and around our waters. Michael first became involved with LA Waterkeeper in 2007 as a volunteer diver in their Kelp Restoration Project when the organization was still known as Santa Monica Baykeeper. Michael officially joined LAW’s full-time staff in 2012 as the Community Programs Manager and then served as the Marine Protected Areas Watch Program Manager and as an AAUS Dive Team Leader. Michael previously worked as a licensed non-denominational counselor for youth and hospice patients. He also holds a BA in Urban Community Environment and Psychology from Antioch University. Michael believes in centering collaborations around a good meal, and he has a special place in his heart for fried oyster sandwiches.
