Star-Studded Bash for LA Waterkeeper & Sustainable Surf at Paradise Cove
As the sun set behind Point Dume in Malibu last Tuesday night, the stars came out to shine. Minnie Driver sang with the “Bitch’n All Stars”, a super band including Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters, Sound City Players, Wallflowers), Jessy Greene (Foo Fighters, Sound City Players, Pink), Christopher Thorn (Blind Melon, AWOL Nation, Live), Brad Smith (Blind Melon), Dave Krusen (Pearl Jam), Jonny Kaplan and Dr. J (Jonny Kaplan and the Lazy Stars). Actors Daryl Hannah and Judd Nelson also came out to party along with other celebrities including Tom Shadyac, Cisco Adler and world champion surfer Shaun Tomson. We even had several members of Malibu City Council attend!
Drinks from the all custom bar were served in mason jars to cut back on the waste, and cocktails were garnished with fresh herbs. Inside the Paradise Cove cabanas a surf board glassing demonstration was taking place, highlighting the non-toxic nature of the eco-friendly resins that Sustainable Surf encourages surf board manufacturers to use. There was also a great taco bar provided by Petty Cash and cool auction prizes including an eco-friendly surf board, electric bikes, an electric golf cart and a yacht charter. Fresh popcorn was also provided by Monarch.
One of the highlights of the evening for me was watching the live performance artist, Norton Wisdom, paint masterpiece on top of masterpiece with a back-lit canvas. As he smeared and destroyed one scene, he was creating a new one and it all happened in a matter of seconds!
Overall, the event was a huge success. Over 300 people came out to support our causes. All night we could hear the waves crashing into the shore almost as if the surf had been an invited guest. The event could not have been more perfect. Thanks to everyone who attended, sponsored and volunteered at SeaChange! Check out pictures from the evening here.
